Coating Failure Analysis

Premature failures of a coating system can be anything from a minor annoyance to a major disruption of service. These failures can cost the owner of the asset and possibly the contractor extra time and money. We can assist in determining the cause of the failure and in many cases, propose a solution.

Independent Third-party NACE certified coating inspections (full-time inspection available or we can schedule inspections to fit the needs of the project).

  • Destructive Testing – Adhesion Pull-off, Tooke gauge for use on steel and concrete

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) – Surface profile, DFT (dry film thickness) on steel and concrete, UT material thickness testing of steel

  • Environmental controls – surface contaminants (CSN chlorides, sulfates, nitrates), moisture testing, environmental conditions monitoring (ambient air temps, RH, Dew Point, wind speed, surface temperature)

  • Warranty audits

  • Tank evaluations

  • Coating Survey’s

  • Corrosion Survey and Analysis

NACE Certified Coating Inspection consists of reviewing specifications, examining surface preparations, measuring substrates, measuring and evaluating the overall performance of the coating system and prevention and analysis of corrosion.
